going to need a GOOD chainsaw soon...
I've got an 18" poulan "for occasional use only" model.
I need a commercial unit, any references? I believe 18" is going to be too short as well. I have worn out several blades and 4 bars, without hurting myself, so I feel I am ready for a "big unit". My new place is wilderness. |

There is but one name in chainsaws, Stihl.

Re: going to need a GOOD chainsaw soon...
I used to think so too......until the gas tank ruptured on my 046 Magnum TWICE because of the stupid design in which they mount the handle bar to the PLASTIC GAS TANK WITH TWO SELF TAPPING SCREWS so if you hit the top of the bar with very much force it rips the screws out of the tank and you get to buy a new tank.
DON'T buy any of the models that use this mount design, I can tell ya that. |

Re: going to need a GOOD chainsaw soon...
I've used many saws over the years. The commercial saws are different animals than the homeowner models. That said; many homeowner specials will run relatively well for years under moderate use. I had a commercial homelite that was an ungainly, heavy beast. It ran like hell for years and nothing stopped it. You have to lay down some serious cash for a good saw. I've used Stihl for years and been happy although I had to work on it occasionally. Huskies are very good or used to be, the new ones look a little frail to me. Jonsered are made at the same factory as the Huskies I believe, in Huskvarna, Sweden. I have an enormous Jonsered that I like very much and has not let me down once. If you do much cutting, you should get a sharpener. A saw is only as good as it's chain. A dull chain is a dull saw. Get the rotary kind that clip to your truck battery. Happy cutting.
